Taxi Taxi! - Taxi Taxi
[Rumraket, 2007]
Genre/Rock, Genre/Pop, Genre/Indie
Hailing from Stockholm are identical twins Johanna and Miriam Eriksson Berhan, the songstresses who have drawn delicate acoustics and painful emotions from their imaginations (and possibly their own hearts) and created Taxi Taxi!

The girls’ debut release is a six-track self-titled EP, predominantly centred on the confusion and pain of young love. It is an extremely raw and unpolished recording; you can hear the guitarist’s fingers as they hit the strings, the occasional quaver in the vocalist’s voice, sometimes you can even hear them swallow in between lyrics; but all of this gives the EP a rustic feel; a personal touch that is hard to imitate, making the record touching at the very least.

It can be extremely difficult to sit through the entire eighteen minutes of Taxi Taxi as it does get quite shrill and whiny in places, and by about track four you’re starting to wonder when the six tracks will be up. On top of this, the voice of the girl that does the majority of singing can be fairly grating and the moments that the other sister gets a chance to shine are few and far between but, when she does it lifts the EP right back up if only for a few seconds.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad recording, the songs themselves are very pretty, the lyricism delightful, it is just one of those CDs that needs to be scattered amongst your playlist with the tracks coming on every now and again to properly appreciate them. All in all the twins have created a lovely debut that is sure to pluck at heartstrings right across the music-loving world.
