UK Rockers White Lies giving their album away with ticket purchase
Like some kind of dark, rock and roll McDonalds, UK rockers White Lies have decided that packaging something extra with tickets to their Australian shows will also receive a free download of their recent #1 UK album "To Lose My Life".
To receive the free copy, you need to purchase a ticket from to one of the band's shows online, from a participating outlet. They will be playing the Metro Theatre in Sydney on July 28th, and the Hi-Fi in Melbourne on the 30th.
These shows will be part of a very busy year for White Lies, who have already played Glastonbury and Coachella, and starting from September will be supporting Coldplay on a month-long tour of Europe.
Supporting White Lies on their Australian dates will be Brisbane band Yves Klein Blue, who also have a new album, entitled "Ragged and Ecstatic" out now.
Deep Elm looking to expand their roster
In these times of economic turmoil, many labels have either downscaled their operations or shutdown completely, leaving fans and bands out cold on the street. Not American label Deep Elm though, who are actually in the hunt at the moment for new signings.
Deep Elm, probably best known for their "Emo Diaries" and "This Is Indie Rock" series of compilations have also been responsible for giving some great bands a bit of a leg up, including Halo-17 favourites Desert City Soundtrack, amongst others. They take the music seriously (not just the profits), and to be honest we don't know anyone in the industry with a bad word to say about them.
Bands that are interested should visit this site and follow the instructions to send their demo in.
Muse following Trent Reznor and using USB sticks in a marketing campaign
I have to admit that I'd conclude the marketing scheme by Muse was quite brilliant, if it wasn't for the fact that Nine Inch Nails used a very similar gimmick during their promotion of the "Year Zero" album.
But nevermind, everybody is excited by the idea of a new Muse album, right? And some lucky people are going to get an advance preview because the band will be dropping six keys in various locations around the world, all containing a copy of their new track 'United States of Eurasia'.
There's no post-apocalyptic storyline and alterate-reality game to go along with this, but you can get some hints as to where they're going to be at this website that the band has set up. No word from Trent Reznor yet if he's going to go all "March of the Pigs" on them for stealing his promotional ideas.
